Who we are
Chateau de la Recepte has been our family home since 2018 when by chance we happened upon it during what had been until then a fruitless house search for more than three years. As we drove through the gates and saw its soft mellow facade our excitement levels rose and continued to rise as we looked around the walled park with its eleven mediaeval towers. After exploring the interior of the chateau our minds were made up - we had to be the new owners. We had experienced what the French call a coup de coeur.
When you visit us, we hope that you too will have the same experience.
Since buying the chateau we have worked hard at making it a comfortable and elegant family home. We have filled it with colours, light, antiques and beautiful things we have collected during our travels around the world.
When you stay with us, we hope that it will be like staying with old friends who make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Whether it be a bbq around the pool, a dinner in the dining room or a breakfast on the terrace.
Mathilde our wedding planner will arrange everything for you from the flowers to the shuttle buses, so that you can relax and enjoy the day.
Your wedding feast and other meals will be prepared by one of the two caterers who have been specifically selected by us.
Your wines will be selected by you from our recommended Marchand de Vins and we can arrange a wine tasting for you.
The main house has four double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, and the cottage in the grounds sleeps a further 6 people in 3 double bedrooms.
Our vibrant village of Vouvant is one of the twenty-one most beautiful villages in France and is only a few metres away. There you will find the quintessential French village experience. A boulangerie, a chemist and four bars/restaurants. Our village church is a wonder, built over 1,000 years ago and a five minute walk from us. Within half a mile is large holiday complex with some 30x 4/6 person gites which your guests can rent.
For exercise there are bike trails (we have 6 bikes to use), a beautiful walk beside the river around the village and miles of quiet country lanes for jogging, cycling or walking. The chateau also has a fully equipped gym and sauna....and we even have the only grass tennis court in the Vendee!
Your wedding ceremony can be held in our park or in the church and your wedding feast will be under the stars in front of the chateau.
